Well. I honestly can't say I've ever done a random post. There is a first for everything I suppose!
I just have all of these photos I'd like to share from the San Diego Zoo. Let's just say...they are very random. A flower here, an animal there.... So, I might as well make the whole post random. : )
Anyways, here it goes..
* It is snowing here this lovely Monday morning. Yes that's right. I said it. Snowing. Blech. It isn't sticking but it is a rude awakening after the abnormal spring weather we have been experiencing. All I can think of is this.....is our siding on our house ever going to be done? It has been worked on for going on 3 weeks now...it was supposed to be 2 weeks. I guess you can't fight with mother nature. I'm really not complaining...I'm just actually more impatient. I'm excited to see what it looks like! Owen keeps telling people we have a new house. He said yesterday that he has to tell everyone he knows we have a new house. ha. I just hope the neighbors approve. Let's just say it's a bit more colorful than the muted browns, green, and grays currently in our neighborhood. It's not crazy colorful, a blue gray. Then again, why should I care what others think?? We like it.
* I guess that leads to a random fact about me. I like approval. I like others to approve of me, of things I do. I need to work on that. My mantra should be, I am what I am. Who cares what others think.
Moving on....
* I am hungry all of the time. I am still breastfeeding and I'm going to blame it on that. But, all I crave is junk! I have made 2 pans of scotcharoos in the last 3 days. Granted, we did share a pan with dear friends of ours who just had a sweet baby girl. Confession: I had some for breakfast.
* On the topic of food....this recipe is divine. So good. And healthy! Now if only I wasn't so lazy....
* I've been on a sewing kick lately. I love sewing baby gifts (burp cloths and bibs) for all of my friends who are having babies. It is a baby boom I tell you!
* I love gift giving. The more personalized the better. I love picking out just the perfect gift. Etsy is definitely one of my fave places to shop for gifts. Handmade gifts are so fun. Sometimes I find I need to tone it down....I want to give too much. I need to set a budget otherwise I'd go overboard.
* I also love party planning. I admit, I tend to go overboard with this. Ever since Owen was born, I have planned themed parties for him. Complete with a huge lunch spread, decorations and all. This is just for family. He has never had a friend party. I am holding off on the friend party thing until next year. Do your kids have friend parties? What do you do for them?
Well, this year I'm trying to tone it down. Trying to simplify. Owen will be 5 in 19 sleeps (as Owen would say) Yes, he has a countdown going... No lunch this year. Just cupcakes and ice cream. Of course, I've decided I need to make the cupcakes from scratch and then I've decided we need cake pops too. LOL. Because we can't just have white cupcakes. We need something chocolate too. I just can't contain myself. It's just one of those things, I have a lot of fun.
* I LOVE chocolate. I must have some daily.
* Speaking of simplifying....we canceled our cable. I can't remember the last time we did not have cable. It has been almost a week now. I was dying the first night. My hubby was at work and he got a lot of texts from me complaining. It is getting better. I've been reading or spending more time on my iphone. Most of the time though, I'm so tired I fall asleep on the couch by 9 anyways. ha. We also have Netflix. Eventually, we will probably get Hulu. Anyone have hulu? What do you think?
* Because of the no cable thing I have watched the entire seasons of Downton Abbey and United States of Tara. LOVE them both. Now I so desperately want to see the next seasons....
* Because of the no cable thing I've had time to read more. I am reading Dreams of Joy by Lisa See. She also wrote Shanghai Girls and Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. Both very good books.
* I'm contemplating a trip to see my youngest sister in the fall. She lives in Washington. I only saw her at Christmas last year. This makes me sad. So the thought of a trip to see her intrigues me. I'm thinking of taking the train....trying something different. I'm thinking my mom and other sister should come along. I had a crazy weird dream about traveling in the train to see my sister last night.....must mean it is on my mind?
* Something weighing heavily on my mind these days......how do I teach my son to be a giving, thoughtful, caring person. He is a sweet, kind boy. But, of course, still has his selfish moments....How do I teach him about God and all that He does and is. How do you do it? I feel overwhelmed and not sure where to start. I hope some of it is by example...I am trying. Maybe he is just too young yet to understand it all....
* Long story. But, yesterday I had a proud wife moment. My husband is awesome and so smart. He is a true advocate for his dear mom. And please say a prayer for her.
* This weekend I had an awesome mommy moment. I am in awe at the bond that has already formed between Owen and Max. It is amazing to watch. Saturday morning, we were all in bed. Max decided to play hide and seek with Owen. Max would hide his head in the covers and then look up at Owen and just laugh and laugh...it was SO. COOL. We all laughed and laughed....
Life is good.
Whew. If you made it this far, kudos to you. That was way more random than I anticipated. :)
Hopefully someone is reading this. HA.
happy monday.

Fact: Scotcharoos are breakfast food :)
Also- I haven't had cable for a very long time. At first I just watched a lot of bad tv, now I hardly watch any tv at all. And I love netflix.
I had to come check out your new header! I love it. :)
It's supposed to be 60 again tomorrow. We all knew we'd have a few more days of cold, but the wind?? Ugh! It's really bitter out there!
I might have to bake something today bc of your scotcharoo comment.
I think I need to have you start working on a few baby items for my sister!! She finds out what she's having today!
I adore gift giving, too. Is it selfish and self-absorbed that I've been giving my photos as gifts a lot lately? Making them into notecards for people, framing them, etc. I think you should do this, too!
Can you plan Eli's bday party for me? I'm awful at that stuff!!
Darin and I are considering dropping cable, too. It will take more to convince Darin, so I'm working on him. I'm realizing that I really don't watch that much TV, I think I could easily go without.
Teaching kids how to be kind and compassionate can be hard! I think kids are just naturally selfish. I think being a good example is a great start, and also giving them opportunities to give. Making cookies for the neighbors, writing thank you cards, giving gifts, etc. And teaching them about God is a daily discipline for me. For us it's making little routines for them. I pray with Evie on the way to school. Pray with the kids before bed. We work on our memory verse for church certain times of the week. We talk about God a LOT! Working those things into your daily routine can be challenging but huge.
Praying for your mother-in-law.
So nice to see you (a little bit!) this past weekend!
We don't have cable, never have ( I don't trust myself to not sit for hours watching HGTV), we do have Netflix which is great and you can go to CBS, NBC, etc and watch most programs.
The snow this morning was a bit of a shock.
I want cookies!!
:-)
Random can be fun...
Snowing?!!!
Confession: I had cookies for breakfast, too.
I hate cable and can't convince my husband of it's evil power of him.
I used to want approval. Life taught me it doesn't matter what other people think.
I'm an introvert so party planning makes me nervous. I'm not too shabby at the plannning part but the attention, eck!
Hope your mother-in-law will be okay.
Thanks for the randomness.
I love this post! Great ponderings!
totally love this post - so awesome to read more about you. and those photos are awesome - that one of max sleeping is so precious.
we don't watch tv here either. we rent the odd movie but that's it and it's been so good for us.
i love planning parties too - so much fun! you'll have to share photos of what you bake. :)
and i love hearing that you sew. i do a bit here and there - not as much as i would like but it's so fun.
I love chocolate and need it daily, too.
I am horrible at parties, hate throwing them and even going to them. And I am horrible at gift giving.
I'd like to visit with my sister, too. I miss her.
Your kids just will grow into kind and thoughtful people if you model it for them, have conversations with them, and honor and respect them as human beings. They really want to do what will make us happy, but we have to gently tell them how they're doing with it.
Love your photos.
Just getting around to the week's posts. Working this week put me way behind.
I loved this list. We haven't had cable for years. I tried Hulu--not much stuff on in that I wanted to watch so I canceled.
I remember breast feeding and scarfing down an entire plate of cookies!!!! You kinda have a "pass" right now on over eating carbs. :)
