Juicy Juice

Hello there! So sorry I have not posted an entry in like 2 weeks...I figure if there is nothing going on why bore everyone! There still really isn't anything too new to report. I am ready for spring and warm weather. I think Tom and Owen are too! It would be SO nice to get outside--I've been running out of things/ideas to keep Owen occupied! We did start ECFE last week but that only happens once a week so there are many more days where I struggle to come up with things (free for that matter) to do! Tomorrow we will probably either go to Como Zoo again or the children's museum. We attempted to go to Como last week on Tom and I's day off but then I realized, as we were half way there, that the winter hours are in effect and they were just about to close.....I felt bad disappointing Owen but luckily he wasn't too upset! He sure does love the animals though!
ECFE is going well so far. Owen has a lot of fun and, for the most part, I am enjoying it as well. There was a little fiasco yesterday but no harm done so I am trying hard not to feel like a horrible mom!
Here is the story:
Yesterday, Owen woke up with a terribly snotty nose and a cough. So, trying to be a good mom, I decided to fill up his sippy with water and a splash (mind you, it was a splash) of Juicy Juice Harvest Surprise juice (100% juice--no sugar added!) before we went to ECFE. I figured it would help with all of the mucous (versus milk that can make it worse) and it would provide him with some Vitamin C. Well...remind me never to do that again! While Owen and the other kids played in one room and the parents were in the other Owen must have gotten his sippy out of my bag. One of the other boys proceeded to drink out of it as well! So....when everyone got back together again the kids' teacher asked me what was in the cup so I told her. Well..the parent educator then decided to tell everyone that according to National Health Guidelines kids should not drink any juice, only milk and water and therefore it is OK to bring cups for the kids as long as it is just for water! I felt personally attacked. What makes it even worse was the mother whose son drank out of Owen's cup chimed in and said he's never had juice before! So now this kid is exposed to juice (HEAVEN FORBID!) So yeah--kind of felt like a terrible mom after ECFE but I'm starting to get over it. Hopefully this does not continue to be a pattern at ECFE.(Sometimes they can be a bit condescending...) Owen just really loves it and I like it as well. Plus, I was so pleased with him yesterday when he sat down at circle time and participated in all of the songs and had a great time doing it. Last week, he just wanted to run around and play toys the whole time!
Other than ECFE, nothing too exciting is going on around here. Tom continues to be busy with work and I actually just finished my 5 out of 6 day stretch so am happy to have some days off!! Now if only Owen's cold would just go away! He hasn't woken up at night yet but he is getting up earlier which isn't too fun. Plus, the snot everywhere isn't all that great either! :) Well, that is all for now. Here are a few random pics I have taken:

Owen's playroom (I forgot to add this to my other blog entry)
I am hoping to have a mural on the wall someday soon!

All ready to go! (but probably not going to get too far in those shoes!)

My little cousins have those cut-up vegetables and fruit. They rock!

OMG your story is making me mad, and I wasn't even there. How did you not lose it at those people? It's like juice = cyanide. And furthermore, isn't amazing how ANYONE SURVIVED in ALL THE YEARS that juice was ok to give to kids? I guess any day now all us juicer-babies can expect our teeth to fall out and then we will drop over dead.

Idiots.

Just because I work for public health I am going to quote our WIC guidelines. 100% juice is good for your child in small amounts--we recommend 4-8 ounces a day depending upon your childs age. So there ECFE! Now you can tell them that :) Hopefully nothing else happens because ECFE usually is a great thing!

That story makes me mad, too. The instructor should have brought up her perspective on juice and kids during a different moment when it wouldn't make you or anyone else feel uncomfortable. You're a good mom- trust your instincts.
