This is Not a Camping Dog

Meet Sadie.

Pretty darn cute, huh?

Obviously, I don't blog about her much.

Sorry to say, but once Owen came along she kind of moved to the bottom of the totem pole. But, that is not to say she isn't loved. She is still a part of our family. Owen adores her..likes to make her do tricks, bosses her around, plays with her, teases her, scratches her belly, and feeds her scraps from his meals. So, naturally, Sadie adores Owen in return.

Anyways, next week is our annual family camping trip. As I scramble to book her a bed at the kennel (because I just remembered last night--oops!) I am reminded of our first, AND LAST, camping trip with our little Sadie. It was years ago, before Owen was around. We went to Jay Cooke State Park with Tom's sister's family. We thought Sadie would have a great time. She loves to run, loves to swim. She's an outdoorsy kind of dog. But OHHH NOOO....We were so wrong. We forgot one minor detail...she is timid too. She turned into a crazy dog that weekend. She did not enjoy being leashed or tied up all weekend (we didn't want to lose her!) And EVERY. SINGLE. NOISE. made her crazy. All night in the tent, she was walking over my head, over my body...ugh. Then we put her in the kennel and EVERY. SINGLE. NOISE made her bark. That was a very sleepless night. Worse than having a newborn!
Thus, we came to the conclusion we were never going to do that again. EVER.

So... Sadie may not be a camping dog and that's ok.  Not everyone is made for camping.

Owen still loves her.

And that's all that really matters.

Such a sweet face! I'm glad you sent me the link to this post. I have to laugh about the camping experience. We had the same issue when we took Maggie camping years ago. It was awful. Barking at every noise, wanting to just run around like crazy...so annoying. We didn't get much rest. LOL.
